About the upcoming behavioral hospital
Through a previously announced partnership between ECU Health and Acadia Healthcare, the state-of-the-art hospital is one step closer to fruition. Community leaders, professionals and others gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony earlier this month.
The new behavioral hospital in Greenville is expected to open in the spring of 2025. Located less than a mile from ECU Health Medical Center, it will provide complete inpatient and thorough outpatient treatment. Services will be offered to seniors, adults, adolescents and children who have mental health symptoms.
Anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder and co-occurring disorders are just some of the disorders that will be treated at the upcoming hospital. Not only will the hospital provide better access to behavioral health services and care, but it will also serve as a teaching hospital.

The new behavioral hospital will help train Brody School of Medicine students and residents in the fields of social work, nursing, psychiatry and other behavioral health professionals. This partnership hopes to alleviate the shortage of behavioral healthcare professionals in the area.
What’s more, the future hospital will be the first of its kind in ECU Health’s 29-county service area and the only place with 24 inpatient beds specifically for adolescents and children within 75 miles of Greenville.
In the end, the hospital will feature 144 beds for inpatient services in an environment designed for behavioral health treatment.
